Deoxycholic acid (DCA) is a synthetic form of natural bile, usually released by our liver to digest a fatty meal. DCA permanently destroys fat cells. It is injected into the fat under your chin to contour your jawline and reduce your double chin. It’s suitable for moderate to severe double chins caused by fat accumulation from genes, aging or weight gain. Other causes of a double chin, such as loss of skin elasticity or muscle excess, will not respond to treatment. DCA may also be injected for off-label use targeting tummy and bra fat.

RISKS & ADVERSE EFFECTS

Common side effects include swelling, bruising, and nodule formation that should resolve within a few days to a week. There is also a risk of nerve injury in the jaw which can cause facial weakness or asymmetry and difficulty with swallowing. Patients with severe double chin may develop excessive loose skin after treatment of the submental fat. This can be improved with surgical tightening procedures or by use of non-invasive treatments.
